Designed for first-time chicken owners (or experienced chicken owners keeping chickens in urban or residential backyards), the Omlet Eglu is a low-maintenance, polymer chicken coop that has gained popularity among hen keepers.

Larger breeds, such as Jersey Giants and Orpingtons, will require more space than smaller breeds like bantams. As a general rule, I recommend providing at least 4 square feet of space per chicken inside the coop, and even more for larger breeds. 

We personally keep Hyline Brown Chickens and find our Eglu cube suited to 4-5 hens. This also gives us the perfect amount of eggs for our family.

For bantams, the Omlet Chicken Coop can comfortably house a few more birds. Bantams typically require about 2-3 square feet of space per bird, allowing for more chickens in the same size coop as compared to larger breeds.

It’s essential to also provide enough outdoor space for the chickens to roam and forage, which can be achieved through a properly sized, secure run. A minimum of 10 square feet per chicken is generally recommended for the run, but more is always better.

I also appreciated that the nesting boxes are securely closed off from the main roosting area to further protect the chickens. We also find this prevents rats or crows from stealing our eggs which has happened before in our home made DIY chicken coops.

Most backyard chickens will have no issue with the ladder however some smaller breeds like Silkie chickens don’t love to climb and sometimes choose to huddle together on the ground. 

If you find your chickens are not using the ladder you can teach them… help them up the ladder in the evening and then close the door to their cube. Open it again in the morning and help them down. Repeat until they learn the skill. 

This feature is essential as it helps prevent slips, falls, and potential injuries. The ladder also has an anti-slip surface, which further boosts its safety and accessibility for the chickens.

This is possibly my favorite thing about the Omlet Eglu cube! I find the cleaning system in the Omlet Chicken Coop to be easy, efficient and user-friendly. The coop is designed with a sliding tray that collects the droppings, making the cleaning process much easier for me. All I have to do is slide the tray out, empty the waste, and return the tray to its place. 

This design helps keep the coop clean and the environment healthy for my chickens. Furthermore, the coop’s materials are easy to clean, saving time and effort in the process.

Maintenance Efforts

When it comes to maintenance, I appreciate how the Omlet Chicken Coop requires minimal effort on my part. As the coop is built with durable materials, I do not have to worry about constant repairs or replacements. In addition, its construction helps prevent issues like rust and rot, further reducing maintenance efforts.
